Mickelson leads the way

12 April 2012

Mickelson stretched his Scottish Open lead to three with a five-foot birdie putt on the long third, but only for a few seconds as Havret was closer in three and improved to 11 under.

Finland's former British amateur champion Mikko Ilonen, like Havret seeking a place in this coming week's Open, went third on his own at 10 under when he followed a bogey on the second with an eagle at the next and then birdies at the fourth and sixth.

Mickelson had to work harder on his next two holes, but stayed 13 under with a 12-foot par putt on the fourth and then by almost chipping in at the short fifth. That put the pressure on Havret to stay two behind and he did well to get up and down from a greenside bunker.
