Hannah Miley won the 400metres individual medley title on the final night of swimming action at the Dr SP Mukherjee Aquatics Complex after holding off Australian Samantha Hamill on the final leg.

Miley was ahead after the backstroke leg and although Hamill came back at her on the freestyle, she was not about to relinquish her lead and touched in four minutes 38.83 seconds, a new Games record.

Victory means the 21-year-old Scot added the Commonwealth title to the European victory she enjoyed in August.

England's Keri-Anne Payne was third in 4mins 41.07secs.

Miley was fourth in Melbourne in 2006 and she described the subsequent four years as "a great journey".

She added: "It's been great. The time wasn't quite what I expected. It was all about the race, I was really chuffed with the race.

"It really hurt in that last 100, I can't ask for any more, it's been a tough couple of days."
