More SPL games postponed

The Scottish Premier League have announced that Saturday's matches at Celtic Park and Tannadice have been postponed on the advice of police.

Celtic's home clash against Kilmarnock and Dundee United's meeting with Motherwell have both fallen foul of the dangerous conditions on roads and pavements following recent snowfall.

Hamilton's clash with Hibernian at New Douglas Park is also in doubt but the SPL expect the other three games to go ahead as scheduled.

Inverness are confident their home match with Rangers will take place while Hearts and St Mirren are also hopeful their games will go ahead.

Hearts are due to host Aberdeen while St Johnstone are scheduled to visit St Mirren Park, but both are subject to meetings with police on Friday.

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster clearly felt the police intervention at Celtic Park and Tannadice was premature.

In a statement, Doncaster said: "I am slightly surprised that the police have issued advice so early, especially when a substantial thaw is forecast over the next two days. However, when police advice is on the grounds of safety, we have no choice but to postpone the games."

The SPL confirmed that a decision on the Hamilton-Hibs contest would take place "no earlier than tomorrow (Friday)", following an inspection of New Douglas Park.

Concern remains about conditions outside the ground with Accies secretary Scott Struthers likening the footpath from Hamilton West rail station to a "bobsleigh run".

The Scottish Football League earlier announced seven postponements, including two Irn-Bru First Division games between Cowdenbeath and Falkirk, plus Stirling and Raith. Second Division matches at Airdrie, Forfar and Livingston have also been called off along with home games for Albion Rovers and East Stirlingshire in the Third Division.
