Morgan set for surgery decision

Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan may well be spared surgery on his broken finger - but he's still highly unlikely to figure in the World Cup.

The England middle-order batsman announced on his Twitter feed that, contrary to earlier reports, he will not have to have an operation. But an England spokesman explained that is not yet 100% certain.

"He will be reassessed again in the next two days, and that decision will be taken then," he said. "But it is likely he will not need surgery."

Even if the Irishman gets by without an operation, it is estimated he will need another four weeks of recovery before his next injury update.

England have already officially replaced him with Ravi Bopara and therefore the only way Morgan could return for the knockout stages of the World Cup would be if another England batsman were injured, and he was deemed fit enough to be reinstated.
