Murray disgruntled at Queen's

Andy Murray directed a furious volley at umpire Cedric Mourier after his third-round clash with Mardy Fish at the Aegon Championship was halted due to bad light.

The score was locked at 4-6 6-1 3-3 when Fish appealed to Mourier to stop the match and resume on Friday because of the gloomy conditions at Queen's. Mourier agreed and Fish gathered his equipment and walked off without a word, leaving a bemused Murray stood on the baseline ready to continue.

When the Scottish third seed realised what had happened, he approached Mourier to complain at the decision before also confronting supervisor Tom Barnes. "Mardy says he doesn't want to play so we stop playing. The referee didn't consult anyone," Murray said on Centre Court.

"That came out of nowhere. The weather was absolutely fine. It's ridiculous.

"The only reason he wanted to stop was because it was 3-3."

Murray made the worst possible start by dropping service in the opening game and he began muttering to himself, growing increasingly frustrated as he slipped 4-2 behind.

The Scot could make no headway into Fish's serve, failing to register a point in the eighth, and his American opponent comfortably claimed the first set. Fish double faulted on his own serve to put Murray in a commanding position at 2-0 up in the second set and the third seed's troubles became a distant memory as he easily squared the match.

The decisive set started badly for Murray, who was broken in the second game without scoring a point and he found himself 3-0 down in the blink of an eye.

A series of errors from Fish enabled him to break back in the fifth, before leveling the score and prompting Fish to approach Mourier to spark the controversial ending.
