Murray is ready to tackle the big boys

14 April 2012

Andrew Murray provided a timely antidote to the agony of Tim Henman's US Open semifinal exit by becoming the first Briton ever to lift the boys' title at Flushing Meadows.

The 17-year-old Scot beat Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 6-2 in his last major tournament before stepping up to senior level.

Murray has been singled out as one of the stars of the future and has been named in Britain's Davis Cup team for the match in Austria next week.

The Lawn Tennis Association's performance director David Felgate said: "I am delighted for Andy - he fully deserves his victory after a week of fantastic tennis.

"This achievement is testament to the hard work and determination he has shown all year.

"Andy has a great future starting in Austria. Who knows what can happen from here."
