Murray seals semi-final spot

12 April 2012

Defending champion Andy Murray moved into the semi-finals of the SAP Open in San Jose with a hard-fought 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) win over Hyung Taik-Lee.

The 19-year-old Scot started slowly, surrendering the first set before winning the next two to set up a showdown with top seed Andy Roddick in the final four.

American Roddick overcame eighth seed Vincent Spadea 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-1.

Murray lost the opening set but recovered quickly to reel off three successive games on his way to levelling the match.

With the scores locked together at 6-6 in the third and deciding set, it all came down who could hold their nerve in the tie-break.

And it was Murray who stepped up to the plate to end a thrilling contest.

Looking ahead to his encounter with Roddick, Murray said: "He has one of the best serves in the game and he's starting to play better with Jimmy Connors as his coach.

"I will have to play well and keep my first serve percentage up - it will be a really tough match."
