Nadal marches on in Rome

12 April 2012

Rafael Nadal continued his march towards a third successive title at the Rome Masters with a convincing victory over fifth seed Novak Djokovic in Friday's quarter-finals.

The second-seeded Spaniard wasted little time against his Serbian opponent, easing to a 6-2 6-2 victory and a last-four meeting with Nikolay Davydenko.

Russian Davydenko, the number four seed, had to work a little harder in his quarter-final before securing a 1-6 6-3 6-3 success over seventh-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo.

Filippo Volandri continued his impressive run in Rome, beating another seed to book his place in the semi-finals.

A day after stunning world number one Roger Federer in straight sets, the Italian overcame 12th seed Tomas Berdych 6-2 6-3 in their last-eight clash.

He will now face either Fernando Gonzalez or Juan Ignacio Chela in his next match.
