Nathan Ake to Man City: £41m transfer fee agreed with Bournemouth

On the move: Man City agree Ake deal

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Bournemouth to sign defender Nathan Ake.

Man City are understood to have agreed a fee of £41million to sign the 25-year-old Dutchman, though a deal is not expected to be completed next week as talks continue with Ake.

Bournemouth were relegated to the Championship this season and the sale would represents a good deal for the Cherries, who stand to make a 100 per cent profit on the former Chelsea defender.

Ake joined Bournemouth on a permanent deal from the Blues in 2017 for £20m. Chelsea inserted a buy-back clause in the deal that took Ake to Bournemouth and could have signed him for £40m this summer but decided against doing so.

Pep Guardiola has been in the market for a defender ever since Vincent Kompany’s departure last summer having missed out on Harry Maguire.

With concerns over John Stones and Nicholas Otamendi, Guardiola has played defensive midfielder Fernandinho in defence, but Ake’s arrival will provide a better option to partner Aymeric Laporte.

City could end up signing two centre-backs if both Otamendi and Stones depart, with free agent Jan Vertonghen - who recently confirmed his departure from Tottenham after eight years - potentially a cut-price option in a window when Guardiola plans to spend big.

But City are also interested in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
