New Jersey gets F1 race

13 April 2012

Formula One will have two races per year in the United States with New Jersey to be announced as a venue later today.

The last grand prix in America was at Indianapolis in 2007 but the sport returns to the country next year when Austin, Texas will host a race.

Now the New York skyline will form the backdrop for a second event from 2013 with the grand prix running along the Hudson River in Weehawken and West New York.

"It will provide a very challenging course - they compare it to Spa in Belgium but will have the feel of Monaco," said Joe DeMarco, an attorney with West New York.

"It has been contemplated to run for at least 10 years but there are options depending on the success we have with it."
