Newcastle trio suffer infection

14 April 2012

Newcastle have closed down the first-team dressing room at their training ground after midfielder Lee Bowyer became the third player to suffer an eye infection.

Bowyer, goalkeeper Shay Given and defender Andy O'Brien will all miss tonight's friendly at Celtic because of conjunctivitis.

The rest of the team have already travelled to Scotland.

In the meantime, Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer remains a target for Primera Liga club Levante.

Pedro Villaroel, president of the newlypromoted Spanish club, has targeted the former England striker who is planning to retire at the end of the season.

Villaroel wants to offer Shearer a two-year contract and said: "His arrival is by no means impossible."
