Nicol starts with victory

13 April 2012

World No 2 Peter Nicol recorded an impressive victory over fellow Englishman Paul Johnson to launch a successful title defence at the Halifax Equitable Super Series Finals at London's Broadgate Arena.

The 28-year-old No1 seed took just under an hour to defeat fifth seed Johnson three games to one.

Competing in the capital for the first time since defecting from his native Scotland to become English, Nicol is bidding to be the first player in history to win three consecutive Super Series Finals crowns.

After a disappointing quarter-final defeat at the British Open a couple of weeks ago, Nicol was pleased with his 15-6, 15-11, 8-15, 15-5 victory and said: "I was confident, moving well and back on form."
