No complacency from Morgan

12 April 2012

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan urged his side to remember they are not safe yet after continuing their dream engage Super League start with a 22-20 victory over Leeds at Craven Park.

The Robins sit top of the Super League table for the first time in their history after seeing off the Rhinos courtesy of a tremendous second-half showing, but Morgan insists the focus remains on avoiding an immediate return to the National League.

"It's a start and that's what it is," he said. "I'm very proud and very pleased with the game. But we're in a marathon not a 400 metre sprint. I'd rather be where we are now than with no points."

Three tries from James Webster, Luke Dyer and Andreas Bauer saw Rovers home after trailing 10-8 at the break, mainly thanks to a controversial try from Lee Smith which appeared to come on the back of a forward pass from Danny McGuire.

"We had some adversity thrown at us," Morgan admitted. "We handled it though and that's character. The players kept their heads against a very aggressive team.

"At one point we had our four most experienced players on the bench with what people may call the lesser players out on the pitch. The players that got us out of the National League and credit most go to them."

The Australian also claims he has seen an improvement in his side from their opening night win over Wakefield exactly a month ago.

Since then they have tasted success against Huddersfield and Wigan, with the 31-year-old highlighting key reasons as to why.

"We knew we had to improve on last week's effort against Wigan to compete with them," he said. "Our composure is a lot better too and we're getting used to the speed of the ruck. Our kicking game is a lot better and so is our defence.

"A lot of the credit for that must to go my assistant Mark Barnes who spends hours and hours working on our defence. I'm very proud of all of my team."
