Ossie Ardiles: Sacking Tim Sherwood will not solve Tottenham's problems

Patience: Ardiles is adamant that Spurs must allow their managers more time in the job

Ossie Ardiles believes sacking Tim Sherwood will not solve Tottenham's problems and has blamed the players for the club's indifferent form this season.

Despite moving the Lilywhites up a position to 6th in the Premier League since taking over from Andre Villas-Boas in December, Sherwood is widely expected to leave at the end of the season.

Villas-Boas was sacked after a run of mixed results which saw Spurs begin to lose touch with the top four, the final straw being a 5-0 defeat at to Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

The Tottenham hierarchy's desperation to return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2010-2011 season appeared to motivate the decision.

But despite Sherwood's failure to lead Tottenham to a top-four finish, Ardiles, a former player and manager with the North London club, does not feel the constant changing of manger is helping the club.

"When we started this season we were full of optimism, but somehow it has been very disappointing," the Argentine told the talkSPORT Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

"I believe that the players we have brought in this season have been the problem. They are not performing the way we expected. I don't want to name names, but basically all the people we have bought. This is a serious, serious problem.

"At the end of the day, whoever the manager is, AVB earlier in the season and later on Tim, there is not a lot you can do with the kind of players we have right now.”

Ardiles added that whoever manages Spurs next season will have a big rebuilding job on their hands.
