Andy Murray crashed out of the Monte Carlo Masters 6-1, 6-2 to Stanislas Wawrinka as his clay‑court jinx continued.

The British No1 had lost his previous two meetings against Wawrinka on the red surface and was never in today’s third-round contest.

Murray started his clay court season against Eduoard Roger-Vasselin yesterday, securing a comfortable two-set victory.

But he had no answer to the power of Wawrinka, losing to the Swiss in just 58 minutes.

After holding serve in the opening game Murray had a break point in the second but was the first to lose his delivery in the next as Wawrinka edged 2-1 ahead and it was downhill from there for the world No2.

There were no problems for Rafael Nadal as he continued his bid for a ninth consecutive Monte Carlo title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.
