There was success for British players on the second day of the Badminton World Championships in China today.

In the men’s doubles competition the English duo of Chris Langridge and Peter Mills beat Hong Kong’s Tsz Kit Chan and Lok Kei Lo 21-12, 21-15 in the first round.

The pairing of England’s Marcus Ellis and Scotland’s Paul van Rietvelde were also successful, winning 21-15, 21-8 in their opening match against Norway’s Jonas Christensen and Marius Myhre.

But there was disappointment in the mixed doubles as Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White suffered a shock 21-18, 21-16 defeat against unseeded Chinese Taipei pair, Hung Ling Chen and Wen Hsing Cheng.
