West Indies' Carlos Brathwaite hit four straight sixes in the final over to condemn England to heartbreak in the World T20 final as his team became the first nation to win the tournament two times.

Eoin Morgan's side posted 155 runs for nine after beginning the match in disastrous fashion following the early dismissals of openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales. The former was out on just the second ball while Hales was forced off the field after making just one run.

Despite England's horror start, leading scorer Joe Root continued his fine tournament by posting 54 runs off 36 balls while Jos Buttler also walked away with his head held high after making 36 runs off 22 balls.

Morgan had a tougher time, however, and was caught out by Chris Gayle off Samuel Badrees' ball leaving him with a score of five off 12 balls. David Willey, Ben Stokes and Chris Jordan (not out) ended with double figures before England punished their opponents when the West Indies took the bat.

Root opened the bowling and, on his first ball, tempted Johnson Charles into a big shot which fell into the hands of Stokes. Root followed up his heroics with another big wicket, this time that of Gayle, who was out for four runs off two balls.

Lendl Simmons, who was the star man in the West Indies' famous semi-final win over hosts India, followed suit after getting out without making a run although Marlon Samuels (85 not out) and Dwayne Bravo (25 off 27 balls) steadied the ship soon afterwards.

But with West Indies needing 19 runs off six balls, Brathwaite stepped up to the challenge and hit four successive sixes in the final over to clinch the nation's second-ever T20 title in remarkable fashion.
