Jenson Button not thinking of quitting struggling McLaren

Jenson Button will not abandon McLaren, despite the team enduring a torrid season.

Mark Webber's decision to quit Formula One at the end of this year has opened up a rare vacancy at Red Bull.

Lotus' Kimi Raikkonen is the red-hot favourite for that seat, with Toro Rosso duo Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne in the running for promotion.

Should Raikkonen get the nod, that would leave Lotus looking for a new driver, whilst Felipe Massa's future at Ferrari is again the subject of speculation following another woeful run of performances.

But, despite McLaren's troubles on the back of building a radically different car for this campaign that has simply not performed, Button will not be jumping ship.

"You cannot look at this year and think 'It's time to get out'," said Button, whose current contract is understood to expire at the end of 2014.

Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Button added: "That's not the right way of looking at it.

"This team will win a championship over the next few years and I want to be here for that.

"I want to build the team to achieve that. Jumping from team to team is not the right way to go racing."
