Joanna Rowsell eager to make up for missing out

2 April 2012

Joanna Rowsell is determined to share in the glory at this week’s Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne, having been reserve rider when Britain won team pursuit gold 12 months ago.

The 23-year-old — a world champion in 2008 and 2009 — was on the fringes in Apeldoorn, Holland last year but alongside Laura Trott and Dani King set a world record of 3min 18.148sec at the Track World Cup in London last month.

Wendy Houvenaghel is also part of the team pursuit squad but Rowsell hopes she will stay in the line-up at the Hisense Arena on Thursday.

She said: “Missing out last year on the team, I really want to get my place back in the team and I’d love to be world champion again. I’d love to get another rainbow jersey.”
