Jonnie Peacock was driven to glory at the IPC World Athletics Championships by the man who took his world record.

Peacock saw off Richard Browne Jr — who set a record in the heats — to clinch the T44 100metre title in Lyon, adding it to the gold he won at the London Paralympics.

There was just 0.02 seconds between them last night, with Peacock dipping at the line to win in 10.99sec. The Briton said: “I’ve been capable of going quick for a while but I’ve had no one pushing me. Now I’ve got someone putting pressure on me, which is fantastic for Paralympic sport.”

Team GB captain Richard Whitehead also completed a London Paralympic-worlds double as he won the T42 200m in 24.95sec.

Whitehead, who was injured in training last week, said: “I dug deep and at one stage it was about how much I really wanted it and I wanted it more than the others.” Compatriot Aled Davies took gold in the final round of the F42 discus with 47.62m.
