Tiger Woods has hailed the presence of a sporting legend in the United States team room after captain Davis Love III invited former basketball star Michael Jordan to join his support staff.

Woods is a close friend of Jordan, an avid golfer who is a member of the Medinah Country Club which hosts this week’s Ryder Cup.

“Michael is one of the greatest athletes who has ever lived,” said Woods. “To have him as part of this is priceless for a lot of our guys. I guess for me, because I consider him like my big brother and have gotten to know him so well over the years, I may take that for granted. But it will be a real treat for some of the other guys who don’t really know Michael.”

Love said: “There are very few guys ever called ‘best athlete in the world’ who want to come and follow every Ryder Cup match. He’s just a good motivation for a lot of our players.”
