Missy is on course for a great eight at the World Championships in Barcelona

31 July 2013

Missy Franklin will continue her bid for a record eight golds at the World Championships in Barcelona tonight.

Franklin will go in the semi-finals of the 50metre backstroke tonight before returning to the pool for the final of the 200m freestyle.

The 18-year-old American, nicknamed ‘The Missile’, faces opposition from Rebecca Adlington’s former rival Federica Pellegrini, the Italian who is the world record holder and world champion over the distance.

Franklin has already won two golds in Barcelona, in the 100m backstroke and the 4x100m freestyle.

Also in action tonight is Chad le Clos, who pipped Michael Phelps to win gold at last summer’s London Olympics. The South African will line up in the final of the 200m butterfly.
