It may still be a year away, but the NFL have now confirmed their three international series games to be played in London in 2016 and revealed that Twickenham will play host to one of those matches for the first time ever.

American football chiefs said on Wednesday that Jacksonville Jaguars will contest the first of the UK series matches against Indianapolis Colts on October 2 at Wembley next year before St. Louis Rams take on an NFC East team at Twickenham - the home of English rugby - on October 23.

While the Rams' opponents haven't yet been announced, the game could see the team play the Philadelphia Eagles - who would make their first trip to the UK in the process - the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants or Washington - which would make them the first team to contest back-to-back NFL games in London.

The 2016 international series would finally be rounded off with a clash between Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals at Wembley Stadium on October 30.

Speaking about the three fixtures, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, said: "The passion our UK fans have shown for the NFL is overwhelming.

"We are very appreciative of the strong and growing fan support, not only for the games, but for all of the related NFL events we host in the UK throughout the year.

"We look forward to welcoming new fans to their first NFL game in 2016 and welcoming back thousands of others that are helping our sport grow to new levels of popularity in London and beyond."
