Promising moves for Andy Murray

16 August 2012

Andy Murray looked in good shape as he strolled past Sam Querrey 6-2, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Cincinnati Open.

The British No1 missed the Toronto Masters last week due to concerns over his knee but dominated the American from the off.

Murray’s serve was too much for his opponent and his defence was strong enough to break serve on three straight service games in the first set.

“The knee felt fine,” said Murray. “It was still giving me a little bit of trouble in practice for a couple of days before the tournament but it felt much, much better on the court today. I moved well, so I’m hoping it won’t be a problem.”

World No1 Roger Federer also eased through, beating Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr 6-3, 6-2, while second seed Novak Djokovic saw off Italy’s Andreas Seppi 7‑6, 6-2.

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the US Open due to the knee injury which kept him out of the Olympics. The Spaniard’s absence means Murray will be seeded third at the Grand Slam, which starts a week on Monday.
