Three things Andy Murray has to change after US Open defeat

Standard Sport looks at what British No1 Andy Murray must do to recover from his US Open exit.

1 - Stop practising so often with Wawrinka (above). Yes, he is a great hitting opponent but he’s too good now. Wawrinka made Murray play from behind the baseline — a tactic he learned from their previous meetings and practice sessions.

2 - Re-tool that forehand. Against Wawrinka, Murray made 15 unforced errors on that wing, which is unacceptable in three sets at this level. Murray did not have his usual venom on the groundstrokes and needs to find it, soon.

3 - Sort out the back. Murray insisted it wasn’t a factor in the Wawrinka match but he was troubled by stiffness throughout the entire north American hard court season. This area of his body will need constant attention in the future.
