Victoria Azarenka: She’s annoying and we’re about to know it

As if listening to her ear-shattering performance on court wasn’t bad enough, Victoria Azarenka’s shrieking could soon become a chart-topping hit.

The world No1, who is defending her title in Melbourne, regularly reaches 95 decibels with the grunt which accompanies almost every whack of the ball.

The Belarussian’s shrieking has been heavily criticised but that has not put off her friend, the American rapper Redfoo, from recognising its musical potential.

The LMFAO frontman, whose biggest hit was Sexy And I Know It, recorded the shriek and mixed the sound into a new song due to be released soon.

Azarenka said today: “It’s my grunt. It’s not my vocals. I don’t take high-key or low-key there. It’s just natural.”

Redfoo has been cheering from Azarenka’s players’ box during most of her matches. He has flown to a gig in Malaysia but plans to return to Melbourne later in the week.

Azarenka has dropped only one set on her way to the quarter-finals, where she faces is Svetlana Kuznetsova, seeing off Elena Vesnina 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth round yesterday.
