Our Super League is back up and running

13 April 2012

The Evening Standard Schools' 1st XV Super League has returned for its second season.

More than 100 teams from London and the South East were involved last year in a competition won by Daily Mail Cup finalists Wellington College, who beat otherwise unbeaten Ealing school St Benedicts 7-3 in the final at Twickenham.

The latter gained some consolation by landing the Evening Standard Team of the Year award after scoring more than 1000 points in 21 games.

St Benedicts first XV coach Jesse Coulson said: "There were quite a few boys who can go on and play at international level, and they have been a privilege and a pleasure to coach. The Evening Standard award means a lot to the school and the boys."

The league is measured on the playing record percentage, with a minimum of six games required for eligibility. If your school is not included and you feel it should be, visit

There will also be an Evening Standard Team of the Month prize, awarded to schools who exceed expectations or produce a record run of results.

To nominate your side, e-mail
schoolsrugby@standard.co.uk explaining briefly why your team deserve the award. The first prize will be announced in October.
