Outwood in league of their own

Wakefield's Outwood Grange have reached the last 16 of the Daily MailUnder 15 Cup at their first attempt, an achievement made all the moreremarkable since they are predominantly a rugby league school and theyknocked out one of the leading rugby union schools in the country, localrivals Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School.

'The current group are a very talented group,' said coach Andy Breen. 'Inunion terms we have a few lads who play for Sandal and we had Richard Wade,who plays for Harrogate, on work experience. He's maintained his links andbroadened the players knowledge of union. Getting this far has created areal buzz around the school so much so that we have had people offering tobuy us a set of shirts.'

Outwood have a powerful centre combination in James Endersby and top tryscorers Stephen Mann. Both are six-footers and Endersby has made an impactin both codes, winning a place in the Yorkshire Under15 team and playingleague for the county while being part of the England RL developmentprogramme. He landed a penalty and conversion in the first win over QEGSwith flanker Danny Wray getting the decisive try in the 10-8 victory.

QEGSwill be kicking themselves for not taking one of their many penaltychances. Outwood's reward is a sixth round home tie agaisnt another topunion school, Durham, who put out Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham 20-10on Saturday.
