Pakistan seek permission to leave

12 April 2012

Pakistan team manager Talat Ali has urged Jamaican authorities to allow the squad to return home "as soon as possible" as the investigation into Bob Woolmer's murder continues.

Ali believes every member of the Pakistan World Cup party has fully co-operated and been exonerated by police investigating coach Woolmer's death on Sunday.

The team manager told Sky Sports News: "Our priority is to get back to Pakistan as soon as possible. The boys are in a state of shock and want to be with their families at this time."

Ali confirmed Pakistan have approached the relevant bodies seeking clearance to leave the West Indies.

"We are trying our best to get back as soon as possible," he said.

"We have requested to the ICC, the World Cup organisers and Jamaican government to please make sure we can leave Montego Bay as soon as possible and get back to Pakistan.

"As regards the investigation, that is up to the police and it is their job now. We had our interviews and DNA tests and we should be allowed to take the first available flight back to Pakistan.

"We have nothing to do over here now. I have been categorically told by police that as far as the formalities are concerned we are through. It is now down to the ICC to ensure we are flown back to Pakistan as soon as possible.

"This is up to the police to investigate. Our job is done. As far as we are concerned we are done, we have co-operated in everything and it's time for us to go back to Pakistan."

Asked if every member of the Pakistan party has been exonerated by police, Ali said on Sky Sports News: "As far as our thinking, yes. We have co-operated with police to the maximum."
