Palace out of luck

13 April 2012

Crystal Palace midfielder David Hopkin cursed his side's bad luck after their 2-0 defeat at Newcastle.

Alan Shearer scored Newcastle's first with a 20-yard free-kick after referee Mike Riley adjudged Tony Popovic to have handled, although the Australian appeared to block the ball with his chest.

Clinton Morrison then had a 54th-minute equaliser disallowed for offside.

Hopkin said: "The referee gave a dubious free-kick for Newcastle's first.

As for our goal, it was a great ball from Jovan Kirovski and Clinton finished it well. I couldn't see where the linesman got the offside from."
