Paris flop is in the past, says Elena

13 April 2012

Elena Dementieva claims she has recovered from her French Open heartache and is ready to book a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

The No5 seed, who is the highest ranked player left in the women's draw, squandered a match point while leading 5-2 against Russian compatriot Dinara Safina in Paris and went on to lose.

But after hammering Shahar Peer, the No24 seed from Israel, 6-2, 6-1, Dementieva is feeling confident ahead of today's clash with Nadia Petrova.

"Paris was a really disappointing moment for me," she said. "I think I was really close to reaching the semi-finals.

"It was a lesson to learn. It took me a couple of days - I didn't play tennis, I didn't practice.

"But then I realised it is a game. I learned from that loss and just moved on."

Petrova has reached her first quarter-final since the Australian Open in 2006 and is equally bullish over her prospects.

She said: "Things are working well and I am very excited. If I'm playing the tennis I need to play, I can pretty much beat anyone."
