Parkinson hopes Soares will stay for survival battle

13 April 2012

Phil Parkinson hopes to build on Charlton's 2-0 win over Plymouth by extending Tom Soares's loan.

The midfielder was due to head back to Stoke after helping Charlton to only their second win in 22 League games but boss Parkinson is anxious to keep the former Crystal Palace player.

He said: "It's something I'll have to discuss with the chairman. Tom would like to stay. He was lacking match practice when he came here but as the games have gone on he's got better and better and we're pleased with his contribution."

Therry Racon set Charlton on their way when he curled the ball in from the edge of the box and Nicky Bailey later made it 2-0.

Although Charlton are still bottom of the Championship, Parkinson is convinced his side can get out of relegation trouble thanks to the numbers of leaders in his dressing room.

He added: "If you look at the team, Graeme Murty, Darren Ward, Matt Spring, Bailey and Mark Hudson have all been captains in their careers. And with Matt Holland on the bench, that's six captains in the 16."
