Pearce rejects replay arguments

12 April 2012

Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is against extensive video technology being introduced to the Barclays Premiership.

Referees' chief Keith Hackett is currently compiling a document which he will present to world soccer bosses in January and is expected to make a strong case for video replays to be used to rule in arguments over whether the ball has crossed the line for a goal.

However, Pearce isn't a fan of technology and said: "I am quite happy to get on with it, let the referee make his decision and let that decision be final."

Pearce believes this latest debate has been triggered by Blackburn's stormy encounter with Tottenham at Ewood Park last weekend when two players were sent off and Spurs striker Mido appeared to get away with handball inside his own box as Rovers searched for a winner.

"I have looked at the Mido 'handball'," said Pearce.

"Sometimes I think he has handballed it, sometimes I think it has hit his chest.

"And the sending offs were subjective.

"I sat round a table with my coaching staff on Monday and watched them again. There were five of us, we saw it a number of times and ended up split down the middle.

"It would be difficult if you ended up going down that route.

"One of the good things about football is that people have different opinions about things. Decisions can create a talking point throughout the week. That is one of the beauties of the game."
