Penalty woe for Birmingham

Birmingham joined Fulham as the other Premiership side knocked out of the Carling Cup last night, with former Tottenham midfielder Steve Clemence missing a second-half penalty in their 1-0 defeat at Third Division Blackpool.

The penalty was awarded for a foul on Stan Lazaridis, who needed attention to his shoulder, which prevented him taking the kick. David Dunn refused to take it after missing twice already this season.

Scott Taylor scored the only goal after six minutes.
