Peploe has high hopes for Ealing

Chris Peploe, released by Middlesex earlier this month, has helped take Ealing to within one step of a return trip to The Oval for the Evening Standard Trophy Final.

The 27-year-old spinner, who claimed 54 first-class victims in a five-year career at Lord's, produced a fine all-round display as the holders cruised into the semi-finals with a 48-run victory over National Knockout Cup holders Bromley.

Peploe struck 48 out of Ealing's 256 for nine and then took four for 33 as Bromley were bowled out for 208. Simon Hawk was top scorer with 85 as they avenged their 2005 final defeat.

Ealing will now face Bishops Stortford at home on 17 August. Fourth rnd: Potters Bar (213-9) bt High Wycombe (150) by 63 runs. Quarter-finals: Ealing (256-9) bt Bromley (208) by 48 runs; Wimbledon (226-3) bt Osterley (222-7) by 7 wkts, Bishops Stortford (224-9) bt Ardleigh Green (138) by 86 runs.

Semi-finals: Sunbury or Potters Bar v Wimbledon, Ealing v Bishops Stortford. Final: 7 Sept (The Oval).
