Phil's double mission

13 April 2012

As Liverpool prepare for tonight's Champions League game in the red-hot cauldron of Galatasaray's Ali Sami Yen Stadium, stand-in manager Phil Thompson believes his team can go all the way in the two tournaments they are involved in this season.

That means winning the Premiership and the Champions League and Thompson said: "We want to win both - the Premiership and Champions League - and I believe we can.

"What we have been looking for since the start of the campaign is to make sure we are playing Champions-League next season. That's the first thing.

"But we still have a great chance of winning both. We have the capabilities, we have proved it before playing top-class opposition."

Galatasaray clawed a goalless draw at Anfield last week and their fans believe they are odds-on to continue their unbeaten 19-match home run in Europe.

But Thompson said: "We have had to go to some difficult places and not lost, so we will be drawing on those experiences. If we keep our headsat vital moments we will be okay."
