Phil's not charitable after nine-dart history

13 April 2012

Phil Taylor celebrated his historic nine-dart finish in the World Matchplay Championship in Blackpool by saying: "Sod the money, it's the achievement which makes this so special."

However, the first man to complete the feat live on television soon changed his tune when it came to declaring what he would do with the £100,000 windfall which goes with the nine-dart finish.

"I've always said that if I did eventually manage to do it, I'd give the money away to charity, but now I've done it I think I'll change my mind," he said.

"I've missed it that many times that people think I'm going to miss anyway. So I just told myself to relax, let my shoulders flow nice and steady.

"Once the treble 20 went in that was easy but then after the treble 19, every drop of blood rushed to my feet.

"I just thought throw the thing as fast as you can and it was right in the middle of the double."

Taylor delivered arguably the greatest display in darts history on his way to a 16-7 quarter-final triumph over Chris Mason.

John Lowe booked a semi-final showdown with Taylor following a 16-13 triumph over Ronnie Baxter.
