Pienaar fights ruling over Horan, Probyn

Saracens will today make a last appeal to the Heineken Cup organisers to allow World Cup star Tim Horan and ex-England prop Jeff Probyn to be added to their squad.

European Rugby Cup officials ruled last night that the administrative error by Sarries, which meant Horan did not sign his registration form even though he was used by Heineken in pre-tournament publicity, could not be rectified.

Horan will not be eligible to play for the club until after the pool matches. Probyn was added to the Sarries squad after organisers insisted extra front row forwards had to be included for safety reasons.

Having given the club this extra time, the ERC have now reverted to their original deadline, which leaves the North London side struggling for play-ers. If Sarries cannot supply enough front row forwards, there will be uncontested scrums.

Organisers have already warned that any match which involves uncontested scrums will be awarded to the nonoffending side. Sarries chief executive Francois Pienaar said: "I am going to write a letter asking, again, for our case to be listened to.

"We are not seeking an unfair advantage and I cannot understand why they have now gone back on what was originally agreed."
