Pietersen boosts England

Kevin Pietersen lifted what had been a gloomy morning for England as he reached his 11th Test half century on the fourth day of the first Test.

His knock came off 88 balls with seven fours as he helped England reach 142-5, an overall lead of 239.

India seamer RP Singh had earlier claimed the wickets of captain Michael Vaughan, Paul Collingwood and Ian Bell to put pressure on the hosts.
