Pippo glee after record strike

12 April 2012

Filippo Inzaghi has scored many an important goal for both club and country in his career, but his record-breaking effort against Celtic ranks amongst the most memorable.

Inzaghi, 34, struck in the 69th minute at the San Siro to hand Milan a 1-0 win and surpass German legend Gerd Muller as the leading goalscorer in UEFA club competitions with 63.

Inzaghi, who earlier this year scored twice to lead Milan to a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final, said: "It's a special evening for me. "I will never forget this game. I'm extremely happy and it's a great satisfaction to have achieved this historic number."

He added: "I wish to thank all the teams that I have played for, all my team-mates because I could not have done it without them.

"Having read the names on the goalscorer's list it makes me very honoured and very proud to lead the list."
