Play-off glory for Davies

13 April 2012

Laura Davies recorded the 64th win of her career by defeating Spaniard Ana Larraneta at the second extra hole of the inaugural Norwegian Masters in Oslo.

Relative unknown Larraneta shot a great final-round 68 to set a five-under-par clubhouse target of 283 that only Davies could match after a 73.

In the play-off over the 18th hole, both players made par, but Davies clinched the £33,000 top prize with a birdie at the second time of asking.

Davies is now just one place outside the seven automatic picks in the Solheim Cup rankings.

Elsewhere, Britain and Ireland captain Pam Benka today heaped praise on her team despite their 11-7 defeat by the United States in the Curtis Cup match in Pittsburgh.

"I cannot speak too highly of my kids," she said. "I am proud of the way they battled."
