Pointon aiming for the top

Being the bridesmaid has never suited veteran coach Dave Pointon and it's

The man behind the rise of St Peter's, Gloucester to become one of the best state schools in the country has yet to lead one of his teams out at Twickenham despite several frustrating quarter and semi-final appearances.

His Under 18s fell foul of an outstanding Exeter College side in the last 32 and if the Under 15s are to reach another quarter-final they must beat overcome serious contenders RGS High Wycombe.

'We are pleased with our progress but we have got a very difficult game on our hands in the next round,' said Pointon, whose team have already beaten Colston's, Churchdown, Crypt and Cheltenham College. 'RGS High Wycombe are, in my opinion, favourites to win the cup this year. They have a physically very powerful side but we are going to give it our best shot.

'We have had a lot of big wins this season in the cup and we are feeling confident. We have not played RGS for a long time but their results in this competition speak volumes.'

Despite all their disappointment in previous years, Pointon thinks they can turn it to their advantage.

'It is good to go into these games as underdogs. We have got nothing to lose and that will help us. We think we can give them a good game and they will have to work hard to beat us.'
