Police to question Tevez and Mascherano over signings fraud

13 April 2012

Argentina internationals Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano will be formally interviewed by Brazilian federal police as part of the case against former Corinthians president Alberto Dualib, according to Buenos Aires newspaper Clarin.

Manchester United striker Tevez will be called around June 17 when he is expected to be in Brazil to play a World Cup qualifier.

Clarin report the lawyer of Liverpool midfielder Mascherano has been in contact with the authorities but a date has yet to be set.

If he has not been interviewed before Argentina's match in Brazil, he will meet with the police then, according to the newspaper.

Both players joined Corinthians in 2005 after they signed a contract with London-based investment fund Media Sports Investments (MSI) and went on to win the Campeonato Brasileiro title.

They later joined West Ham before Tevez was signed by United and Mascherano moved to Liverpool.

Dualib is accused of fraudulently diverting money from the signings of several players by the Sao Paulo fiscal department who will interview the 88-year-old on April 23.

Dualib was appointed Corinthians president in 1993 but resigned last September because of the case.

A prosecutor's report detailing offences including the forming of a criminal organisation as well as fraud involving a sum between US 825,000 and 2.5million was made on February 28 and accepted this week by the Sao Paulo Justice Court.
