Ponting's ton lifts Aussies

Ricky Ponting scored his first Test century in India as Australia reached 254 for four by the close on the opening day of the series in Bangalore.

Ponting's 123 included 13 fours before he fell to off-spinner Harbhajan Singh for the ninth time in his career. Simon Katich shared a second-wicket stand of 166 with his skipper.

Zaheer Khan dismissed Matthew Hayden in the first over of the day and Michael Clarke in the last.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, beat New Zealand by seven wickets in a one-day international in Mirpur.
