Postponed game gives Hartson a rest

Wimbledon hope striker John Hartson can shake off a bout of food poisoning in time for Saturday's FA Cup third round replay against Notts County at Meadow Lane.

Last night's second attempt to stage the game - it was abandoned after 49 minutes due to fog last Tuesday - was called off at 7pm because of a waterlogged pitch.

Notts County secretary Tony Cuthbert said: "Wimbledon had arrived and it was frustrating for both managers.

"We've gone from a frozen pitch to a waterlogged one in three days."

Middlesbrough await the winners, with their fourth-round tie scheduled for Wednesday, 7 February.

Wimbledon manager Terry Burton said the only good thing to come from a second postponement is that it might give Hartson time to get fit.

Burton said today: "John was not very well before the game because he had a bit of food poisoning.

"He was feeling rough yesterday morning and we will just have to wait and see what happens before Saturday's game.

"The rain came down inside an hour and the ref had no option but to call it off." County manager Jocky Scott said: "We were training on the pitch in the afternoon when it was perfect.

"Then we went for a pre-match meal but around 6pm the heavens just opened.

"When we came back the pitch was covered in water. It was very disappointing."

Meanwhile, Wimbledon captain Kenny Cunningham will end a seven-month injury nightmare when he plays in a reserve game against Arsenal today.

Cunningham, 29, has been sidelined since last May with a groin injury.

The Republic of Ireland international said: "I am feeling fit but you never really know how things are unless you are playing."
