Pouso close to Charlton move - Damiani

12 April 2012

Penarol midfielder Omar Pouso is on the verge of joining English side Charlton on a season-long loan, according to the Uruguayan club's president Jose Pedro Damiani.

The departure of the 26-year-old Uruguay international, who joined Penarol last year from Danubio, would be a major blow for the club, who have lost their opening two games in the Apertura tournament.

"Mr Pouso has flown to England," said Damiani. "We have to send the transfer papers and this is painful for us. Pouso explained to us that they (Charlton) offered an attractive amount of money and we won't forbid him a step forward in his career."

He added: "Pouso treated Penarol very well, but this transfer will affect the team. Apart from this, we have signed strikers who are not scoring goals."
