Premier League Rumour Mill: Villa to let star leave on loan

13 April 2012

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is considering sending central defender Gary Cahill on loan even though he is part of his immediate plans.

The 21-year-old midfielder is not getting enough games because of the form of Martin Laursen and the arrival of Curtis Davies at Villa Park.

Prospect: Gary Cahill is an England U21 international

Wolves and hometown clubs Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are all interested in taking cahill on loan and O'Neill admitted: "There is always a possibility of something happening.

"It is, what shall I say, delicate in that we don't have a fantastic squad. We still want players to play some games, there's no doubt about that.

"There have been a number of teams, quite a number in fact, who have enquired about Gary, and I will give it some consideration this week."

Villa also intend to reward defender Wilfred Bouma for his good form with a new contract at the club.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to sign 19-year-old midfielder Diego Capel from Seville for £8m and are set to beat Spurs in the race for 17-year-old Nigerian wonderkid Macauley Chrisantus.

Rumour of the day: West Ham will sign Giles Barnes from Derby for £5m in January - but the midfielder will then be loaned back to the Rams for the remainder of the season.

No chance: Andriy Shevchenko will not be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan after showing he has regained his scoring touch in last night's 1-1 draw with Rosenborg.
