Saying goodbye: Teddy Sheringham may rejoin Millwall

Sheringham, who has enjoyed stints with Tottenham, Manchester United and Portsmouth, wants to go into management and has been chased by teams in Australia but he also believes he has another season in his ageing legs.

The former England forward could be lured to The Den with the promise of a coaching job but he is also interesting MLS side the New England Revolution.

Patrik Berger is also been chased by top teams in the United States but he is set to sign another contract with Aston Villa.

The former Liverpool star's stay with the Midlands club looked over at the end of last year when he was loaned out to Stoke after refusing to play for Villa's reserves.

But he has bounced back to top form since returning from the Potteries and Villa boss Martin O'Neill said: "I do not have time here to be holding any grudges with people and I've no time to be sentimental either.

"I will certainly be speaking to him. This is as fit as he has been now for a couple of seasons. He laboured here last year. He was never fit and I am sure he was thinking of packing in.

"This is the best it has been and yet he hasn't started a league game for us. But his contribution was there to see when he left the bench against Everton on Monday."

Portsmouth and Fulham are leading the chase for Newcastle defender Titus Bramble, who will be a free agent in the summer, and Birmingham will be among the front-runners if they are promoted.

The Toon Army will replace the former Ipswich centre-half with Olympiakos defender Erol Bolut if he impresses during a trial on Tyneside.

Arsenal have beaten Liverpool to the signing of 19-year-old Valencia defender Yago Fernandez while Manchester City are tracking 17-year-old Nigerian winger Matthew Edile. Newcastle have given a trial to out-of-contract Olympiakos defender Erol Bolut.

Wolves want to keep promising 22-year-old winger Lewis Gobern but manager Mick McCarthy said: "We want him to stay but as yet the contract we have offered remains unsigned."

Rumour of the day: Seville want to sign West Brom striker Diomansy Kamara.

No chance: Celtic and Rangers have both been told that Arsenal young gun Nicolas Bendtner is not for sale.
