Pressley is all shook up with virus

14 April 2012

Scotland manager Berti Vogts faces big problems in defence ahead of the World Cup qualifying doubleheaders against Norway and Moldova.

Lee Wilkie, Jackie McNamara, Malky Mackay, Christian Dailly and John Kennedy were all excluded from the squad because of injury but now another defender, Steven Pressley of Hearts, has a virus and may be forced to pull out.

Vogts is concerned that Norway, who Scotland play at Hampden in a Group Five match on Saturday, could exploit his side's weakness.

He said: "We will play against a team who are strong, especially up front, and they have John Carew who is almost seven feet! We have to do something special against him so I am very disappointed about that. It's a serious situation. You need big, tall boys against Norway and we are missing five defenders."

The Scots play away to Moldova a week tomorrow.
