Problems pile up for Wenger

Injured: Freddie Ljungberg

Arsenal face serious injury problems going into their Champions League match in Moscow tomorrow.

Patrick Vieira, Fredrik Ljungberg and Sol Campbell are all out of the clash against Lokomotiv Moscow, a match of vital importance to Arsenal after their 3-0 home defeat by Internazionale.

Vieira has a thigh injury, while Ljungberg has an ankle problem and Campbell is only now set to resume training following the death of his father, Sewell, more than a week ago.

The problems for manager Arsene Wenger could increase further if Martin Keown fails a test on a shin injury.

Ljungberg will not be fit to play at Liverpool on Saturday and may struggle to face Chelsea on 18 October, which Vieira will miss through suspension.

Robert Pires looks certain to come in for Ljungberg in Russia, while Edu is likely to form an all-Brazilian central midfield with Gilberto Silva, who believes Arsenal must show more defensive discipline in European matches. "In some situations we play like we do in the Premiership," he said.

"We must play differently. We have six games to qualify and in the Premiership there are a lot of games. We were given lessons against Inter and we need to be more focused on defence in Europe."

Thierry Henry believes Arsenal can end a miserable sequence of results in Eastern Europe, having lost there 3-1 to Dynamo Kiev in 1998 and then 3-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk and 4-1 at Spartak Moscow two years later .

Henry said: "Before we played Inter we had a good record against Italian teams. Maybe we can now start winning against teams from Eastern Europe."
